WorkSafe Saskatchewan will form partnerships with Saskatchewanorganizations and agencies to pool programming, education and training
resources to help prevent workplace illnesses and injuries. The initiative
is being led by the Saskatchewan Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) and
Saskatchewan Labour.
"WorkSafe Saskatchewan's goal is to foster a culture of 'safety and
prevention first in Saskatchewan workplaces'," Labour Minister and Minister
Responsible for the Workers' Compensation Board Deb Higgins said.
"By sharing resources and helping disseminate information,WorkSafe
Saskatchewan will help put to use the abundance of workplace health, safety
and prevention knowledge already in existence."
Speaking to the Saskatchewan Industrial Safety Seminar in Saskatoon,
Higgins unveiled the first WorkSafe Saskatchewan project, a CD-ROM
containing practical health and safety information. A Web site with links
to approximately 600 occupational health and safety resources, including
the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, has also been
launched at www.worksafesask.ca. WorkSafe Saskatchewan will also conduct a
campaign targeted to accident prevention in high-risk industries.
"Successful safety programs depend upon providing people with proper
information, skills development, tools and on-going support," WCB Chairman
John Solomon said.
"The challenge for those of us with a stake in workplace injury prevention
is to transform the vast store of existing and emerging occupational
health, safety and prevention research into practical and applicable tools
and make them readily available."
