An inquest into the death of William Aikens will be held Friday, January10th, 2003, at 1:00 pm at the Provincial Court House, 2nd Floor, 220-19th
Street East, Saskatoon.
Aikens, aged 49, died on December 24th, 2001, while under palliative care.
Mr. Aikens was an inmate of the Regional Psychiatric Centre at the time of
his death.
Section 20 of The Coroners Act, 1999, requires an inquest to be held into
the death of any person who dies while an inmate in a jail, penitentiary,
lock-up or correctional facility.
In addition to establishing when and where the death occurred and the
medical cause of death, the Coroner's jury may make recommendations to
prevent similar deaths in the future. Inquests are open to the public.
Chief coroner Dr. John Nyssen will preside at the inquest.
