PUBLIC URGED TO CHECK HEALTH CARD VALIDATION DATE

Released on December 30, 2002

Saskatchewan residents should check their health cards to ensure they are

still valid in the new year.

Earlier this fall, validation stickers were sent to all residents whose

cards had December 31, 2002 expiry dates. Inevitably, some people do not

receive these packages. The most common reason is that the intended

recipient has moved and failed to notify Saskatchewan Health of a new

mailing address. If any of those people are still living in Saskatchewan,

they may encounter difficulties the next time they try to access health

services in the province.

"Accurate beneficiary records are important. We want to be sure that

people who are eligible for coverage receive that coverage and conversely,

we don't want to be paying for people who are ineligible," Assistant Deputy

Minister Lawrence Krahn said.

Any resident possessing a card that has expired December 31 should contact

Saskatchewan Health, toll free at 1-800-667-7551 or in Regina, at 787-3251.
