Saskatchewan highway signs will soon point motorists toward the nearest
public library. Libraries offer valuable services to travellers including
access to the Internet, e-mail, and recreational reading materials en
route.
"The signs will ensure that motorists have access to information networks
when vacationing or travelling," Learning Minister Jim Melenchuk
said. "Libraries are an important part of the knowledge-based society, and
I am pleased we are able to promote their valuable services on highways
signs throughout the province."
"Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation assists communities with a public
library to display library signs through its Centenary Enhanced Tourism
Signing Program," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman
said. "Information about the program can be found on the Department of
Highways and Transportation's Web site - www.highways.gov.sk.ca and at
public library system headquarters."
There are 320 public libraries in Saskatchewan.
