Betty Rowlett's commitment to her child's safety has paid off - in a bigway. Rowlett has won a $1,000 Saskatchewan family getaway to Prince Albert
National Park through SGI's annual child restraint campaign contest.
The prize includes accommodations and golf fees.
Over the summer, Rowlett attended a child restraint clinic in her hometown
of Nipawin. While learning how to properly adjust her child's seat, she
entered a random draw for one of four $1,000 Saskatchewan family
vacations. The contest, sponsored by the Insurance Brokers Association of
Saskatchewan, is offered each year as an incentive for caregivers to attend
a clinic.
"We want to congratulate Ms. Rowlett not only for winning the contest, but
also for being such a concerned parent," Crown Investments Corporation
Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "She provides a great example of what
caregivers should do to ensure the safety of their small passengers while
travelling."
Between May and September there were 89 clinics held in 66 communities.
Almost 2,000 child restraints were checked. In the past five years, over
10,000 child restraints have been checked in Saskatchewan.
"Statistics show that only half of children age eight and under in
Saskatchewan are properly restrained in a vehicle," Sonntag said. "Properly
restraining children is the best way to prevent injuries to them during a
collision. We want parents and caregivers to know this and to have all the
necessary information to ensure the safety of their children."
