SRC WOWS STUDENTS WITH SCIENCE

Released on December 5, 2002

The Saskatchewan Research Council demonstrated how fun science can be to

grades 5 and 6 students today during an open house held at their Regina

facility.

"The aim of the open house is to expose young students to science in a fun,

interactive way," Minister Responsible for the SRC Eldon Lautermilch

said. "It's important for students to learn about the exciting work we do

in Saskatchewan that develops and applies science and technology."

During the open house students learned about oil emulsions, how steam

injection affects viscosity, surface tension in bubbles, and chemistry

experiments. SRC's researchers presented the displays and encouraged the

youth to get involved with the interactive activities.

The open house is a joint initiative between SRC and the Innovators in the

Schools program. SRC is a major funder of the Innovators program, which

promotes awareness of science and technology and the careers available in

these fields. The Innovators program also encourages students to pursue

math and science programs to prepare them for these careers.
