BULK FUEL PRICES LEVELED OUT IN NOVEMBER

Released on December 5, 2002

The Farm Input Price Survey reports that average price for bulk diesel fuel

purchased in November increased by 1.4 per cent, and the average price for

bulk gasoline remained unchanged from prices reported in October.

According to the survey, the trend of fuel price increases for bulk diesel

and gasoline delivered to farms slowed in November. Although farmers have

seen bulk fuel prices rise this season, prices paid in November 2002 are

similar to those paid last year at this time.

Results for fertilizer purchases were mixed with prices paid by survey

participants for phosphate rising by three per cent and prices for urea

decreasing significantly by 4.9 per cent from prices reported for October

purchases.

Price changes for livestock items varied. Prices paid for twine used in

round balers went down by 0.4 per cent. The price paid for cobalt salt

block rose by 1.7 per cent, and the price of Ivomec increased by 1.1 per

cent from October. The price paid for one-to-one minerals in November fell

by 3.6 per cent from the same reporting period in 2001.

The Farm Input Price Survey Report is produced monthly by Saskatchewan

Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization to provide producers with

current information about prices paid for key crop and livestock production

inputs.

The data used in the report is collected from a network of Saskatchewan

farmers located throughout the province, with survey data gathered directly

from producers' transactions. The monthly Farm Input Price Report is

available on the web at www.agr.gov.sk.ca/statistics/surveys.asp.
