UPGRADING TWO SCHOOLS IN YORKTON

Released on August 22, 2002

The provincial government is investing $320,000 on improvements to two

schools in Yorkton.

"We are investing in schools, in students, and in the future of

Saskatchewan," Saskatchewan Learning Minister Jim Melenchuk said.

Yorkton Regional High School will receive $237,000 for roof replacement,

foundation repairs and washroom renovations. St. Paul's Elementary School

will receive $83,000 for a roof replacement project. These projects will

be cost shared with the Yorkton public and Catholic school divisions.

"With $40 million in the Department of Learning's capital budget for

schools, approximately 140 school construction, renovation or upgrading

projects will be funded in communities around the province this year,"

Melenchuk said. "An additional $20 million for school facilities was made

available, over a four year period, from the Centenary Fund, which was

announced in 2000."

Additional projects will be approved throughout the fiscal year.

"These school improvement projects are part of the government's commitment

to invest in modern, well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan

students," Melenchuk added.
