KENNEDY AREA GETS NEW K-12 SCHOOL

Released on September 24, 2001

The Kennedy Langbank K-12 School was officially opened today.

This new school will replace the elementary school in Langbank and the high

school in Kennedy. Both facilities were deteriorating and in need of major

upgrades or replacement. The new school will ensure that K-12 students in

the Kennedy, Langbank and surrounding district will continue to receive top

quality education.

"The new school will provide a modern and well-equipped learning

environment for the K-12 population in both communities," Education

Minister Jim Melenchuk said. "This new school ensures quality education

continues to be a proud tradition in these communities."

Saskatchewan Education and the school division are sharing the cost of the

new school. The total development cost is $2.6 million, of which the

government's share is approximately

$1.4 million.

In total, the provincial budget has allocated more than $29 million this

year for school capital construction, renovation and upgrading projects.

This includes $5 million from the Centenary Fund. Approximately 150

projects will be undertaken this year.
