SURFACING HIGHWAY 312 NEAR ROSTHERN

Released on September 18, 2001

Surfacing work has begun on 11.8 km of Highway 312 near Rosthern.

"On-road work for this $1.6 million project began September 13th with the

completion date targeted for 2002," Highways and Transportation Minister

Pat Atkinson said. "Completion of this job will require an estimated 42

workers."

Improvements are taking place on two sections of Highway 312 to total 11.8

km. The first section begins at the junction of Highway 11 and 312 and

extends west for 5.3 km. The second section begins 11.4 km west of the

junction of Highway 11 and ends 200 meters east of the Laird Access Road.

Anderson Rental and Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon was awarded this project. The

project includes reconstruction of the subgrade and surfacing through

Rosthern.

"Increased traffic volumes and weights using this highway has caused

deterioration," Atkinson said. "Rebuilding and strengthening this highway

section will enable it to handle current and future traffic loads."

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record

$311.7 million, which will help to resurface and upgrade 550 km of rural

and northern highways.
