RESURFACING ON HIGHWAY 1 BY GRENFELL

Released on September 10, 2001

Resurfacing work has begun on a 13.2 km section of Highway 1 near Grenfell.

"Work on this nearly $1.9 million resurfacing project is anticipated to be

completed by mid-October," Highways and Transportation Minister Pat

Atkinson said. "Completion of this job will require an estimated 24 full-

time workers."

The resurfacing project on Highway 1 will begin at the junction of Highways

1 and 47, (8 km west of Grenfell) and will continue a further 13.2 km west.

Morsky Construction Ltd. of Regina was awarded this resurfacing project.

"Highway 1 is part of our national highway system and it's necessary to

keep this busy highway in good condition," Atkinson said. "By

strengthening and resurfacing this section, Highway 1 west of Grenfell will

be capable of handling heavier traffic loads and volumes."

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record

$311.7 million, which will help to improve the major highway system that

carries 65 per cent of provincial traffic.

Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for

construction signs and equipment.
