SASKPOWER BOARD APPOINTMENTS

A new chairperson, vice-chairperson and one new member have been appointed

to the SaskPower Board of Directors.



University of Regina President Dr. David Barnard has been appointed as

SaskPower Board chair, and replaces the late Milt Fair. Barnard was first

appointed to the SaskPower Board in 2000.



Patricia Quaroni, a partner in the Olive Waller Zinkhan & Waller law firm

in Regina, has been appointed vice-chair. Quaroni also joined the

SaskPower Board in 2000.



Al Macatavish is a new appointment to the SaskPower Board of Directors.

Macatavish worked with Manitoba Hydro for 39 years. He retired in 2000 as

the Corporation's vice-president of Transmission and Distribution.



"Professional, qualified boards fulfill a significant role in the effective

governance of our Crown corporations," Crown Investments Corporation (CIC)

Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "I am delighted to announce new roles for

Dr. Barnard and Quaroni, and to welcome Macatavish to the SaskPower Board

of Directors."



In addition to Dr. Barnard and Quaroni, Macatavish joins current Board

members Colleen Bailey, Vernon Bellegarde, Larry Braun, Neil B. Collins,

Donald Mintz, V. Lynne Pearson, Keith Rissling, Mel Watson and SaskPower

president and CEO John Wright.



The SaskPower Board is comprised of business professionals and community

leaders from across Saskatchewan and Canada. Among its responsibilities,

the Board provides leadership in setting SaskPower's long-range strategic

direction and approves the corporation's strategic plan, business plan,

operating goals and budget, and performance indicators. All members of the

Board are independent from SaskPower management, with the exception of the

president and CEO.



Board members are appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council, pursuant

to the Power Corporation Act. Through the chair, the Board reports to the

CIC minister.
