SKYWALK LINKS REGINA'S DOWNTOWN

Released on November 29, 2001

Visitors have a comfortable new way of maneuvering between downtown

Regina's most popular attractions with the official opening today of a

SkyWalk linking Casino Regina, the Cornwall Centre, Delta Hotel, Trade and

Convention Centre and the 1700 block of Hamilton Street.

"The SkyWalk is a vital component of Casino Regina's exciting entertainment

expansion," Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation

Kim Trew said. "The comfort and convenience of sheltered access between

Casino Regina's new show lounge and the excellent accommodations and

services offered in downtown Regina furthers the casino's reputation as one

of Saskatchewan's top tourist destinations."

Trew said creating a climate-controlled link between Casino Regina's new

show lounge and downtown businesses makes good economic sense. Visitors

are encouraged to stay longer to take advantage of easy access to more

shopping, restaurants, entertainment and services, adding to the casino's

positive economic impacts on the city.

Mayor Pat Fiacco said the SkyWalk supports the plan approved by Regina's

Market Square and the city, and encourages activity in the downtown beyond

the 9-to-5 business day.

"This newest addition to the network of pedways connecting downtown

attractions makes Regina's Market Square more vibrant and even more

accessible," Fiacco said. He noted that visitors now have indoor access

from Casino Regina through to the F.W. Hill Mall via various pedways.

The SkyWalk pedestrian link is suspended over Saskatchewan Drive at

Hamilton Street.

A partnership was established between the City of Regina, the Delta Regina

Hotel, the Trade and Convention Centre, Regina's Market Square, Cadillac

Fairview and Casino Regina to cover the project's $2 million total cost.
