WESTERN PREMIERS' CONFERENCE AGENDA RELEASED

Released on May 23, 2001

Premier Lorne Calvert today released the agenda for the Western Premiers'

Conference to be held May 30th to June 1st in Moose Jaw.

"As is normal practise at Western Premiers' Conferences, premiers will be

reviewing the state of affairs in federal-provincial/territorial relations

and focussing on issues that are most important to western Canadians,"

Calvert said. "These include federal-provincial/territorial fiscal

relations, transportation, agriculture, energy, the environment, and

multilateral and Canada-U.S. trade issues."

The premier also said children's issues and health will likely be on the

agenda.

"Western premiers have, over the past several years, spent a good deal of

time working together on children's issues and health. I anticipate that

these will continue to be of particular importance to western premiers when

we meet in Moose Jaw."

Premier Calvert also said he will raise water quality and management with

his colleagues.

"This is obviously an important and timely issue for Saskatchewan people

and I want to talk to my colleagues about experiences in their provinces

and territories."

Premier Calvert is host of the 2001 Western Premiers' Conference.

"I am looking forward to hosting the conference in Moose Jaw and meeting

with my colleagues on a number of issues of crucial importance to all

territories and western provinces."
