IMPROVEMENTS TO HIGHWAY 155

Released on May 4, 2001

A 16.2 km surfacing improvement project on Highway 155 north of Green Lake

is set to begin this week.

"Road work is anticipated to begin on this $2.3 million surfacing project

this week and should be completed in early July," Highways and

Transportation Minister Pat Atkinson said. "Completion of this job will

require an estimated 31 full time workers."

H.J.R. Asphalt Ltd. of Saskatoon has been awarded this project.

This 16.2 km surfacing and double seal coat project will begin on Highway

155 approximately 41 km north of its junction with Highway 55.

"We are working hard to improve highways in the northern part of

Saskatchewan," Atkinson said. "This year's budget will help to reach our

goal of improving safety on northern roads for residents and tourists that

visit the area."

Last fall, a separate 23 km improvement project began on Highway 155 that

should be completed this spring.

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record

$311.7 million, which will help to resurface and upgrade 550 km of rural

and northern highways.
