ROAD IMPROVEMENTS BEGIN NEAR ESTON

Released on May 3, 2001

Resurfacing and widening 11 km of Highway 44 has begun recently near Eston.

"Roadwork for this $1.8 million resurfacing project began in late April and

should be completed by mid-July," Highways and Transportation Minister Pat

Atkinson said. "Completion of this job will require an estimated 43 full-

time workers."

L & R Asphalt Ltd. of Regina was awarded this resurfacing project.

The resurfacing project on Highway 44 will occur by the junction of

Highways 44 and 30. Road widening will also take place to improve safety

on this highway.

"Highway 44 has experienced an increase in truck traffic particularly in

the Eston area and the road needed to be wider for safety reasons,"

Atkinson said. "We are committed to improving our road system across the

province."

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record

$311.7 million, which will help to resurface and upgrade 550 km of rural

and northern highways.
