PROFITS INCREASE AT CASINO REGINA

Released on March 5, 2001

Profits are continuing to increase at Casino Regina and that's making local

business people very happy.

The province has released third quarter results for Casino Regina that show

net profits are up 14 per cent over last year. For the period April 1st to

December 31, 2000, Casino Regina had a net income of $18 million, up from

$15.7 million for the same time period last year.

"We are proud Casino Regina is able to play such a vital role in the local

and provincial economy," Casino Regina President and CEO Joe van Koeverden

said. "Once our new entertainment centre and parkade are built, we are

confident Casino Regina will play an even greater role in enhancing

Regina's entertainment opportunities and attracting visitors to the

province."

The Executive Director of Regina's Market Square, John Hopkins, agrees.

"Casino Regina continues to build and position itself as Saskatchewan's

premier tourist destination, and with the expansion poised for the

construction stage, all indications point to a promising future," Hopkins

said.

"Over the past five years we have seen an underutilized area of the

downtown transformed into a beehive of activity both during the day and at

night. This has translated into increased economic activity for the

downtown and the community at large"
