MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO BUY & SELL POWER

Released on June 28, 2001

SaskPower will post a tariff for the use of SaskPower's transmission system

by July 1st. This will allow the corporation more opportunities to buy and

sell electricity in the North American marketplace.

Service bookings based on the SaskPower Open Access Transmission Tariff

(OATT) will begin November 1st. Customers can comment on the tariff and

the system will be tested from July 1st to November 1st.

The tariff sets the fee for out-of-province wholesale suppliers or

independent power producers within Saskatchewan to access the provincial

electrical grid to move electricity to other jurisdictions. The tariff

also allows Saskatchewan's two municipal utilities, Saskatoon and Swift

Current, to purchase electricity from suppliers other than SaskPower.

"This tariff keeps pace with the power industry rules and practices for

interconnected transmission access and it will therefore create new

opportunities for SaskPower by securing access to external markets," Crown

Investments Corporation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "Energy demand

across North America is expanding and with this tariff in place, SaskPower

will not face barriers when pursuing export opportunities or, if the need

arises, importing backup supply. This will help the corporation continue

to provide reliable service at the lowest possible cost."

"Since announcing this initiative last June, we have worked hard to put the

necessary pieces in place to be able to take advantage of the market

options these changes will create," SaskPower President and CEO John Wright

said. "This will position SaskPower to better market our surplus energy to

customers across North America. As always, we will continue to ensure

Saskatchewan customers receive their power first and this will not change

after July 1st."

The complete Open Access Transmission Tariff document will be available by

July 1st at http://mapp.oasis.mapp.org/OASIS/SPC. Questions or comments
