UPGRADING TWO LLOYDMINSTER SCHOOLS

Released on June 22, 2001

The provincial government is investing $650,000 on improvements to two

schools in Lloydminster.

"Our government is investing in improved learning environments for

Saskatchewan students," Education Minister Jim Melenchuk said. "We are

committed to working with school divisions to ensure students have safe,

comfortable and well-equipped learning facilities."

The former Holy Rosary High School will receive $300,000 for renovations to

convert the high school to St. Marys Elementary School. E. S. Laird School

will receive $350,000 for the remaining construction costs of the gymnasium

addition, and the renovation of the existing gym into a band and drama area.

"With the $29.2 million in the Department of Education capital budget,

including $5 million from the Centenary Fund, approximately 150 school

construction, renovation or upgrading projects will be funded this year,"

Melenchuk said.

Additional projects will be approved and allocated to school divisions

throughout the fiscal year.

"By investing in education we are investing in the future of Saskatchewan,"

Melenchuk said.
