The provincial government is investing $491,000 on improvements to fiveschools in northern communities.
"Our government is investing in improved learning environments for
Saskatchewan students," Education Minister Jim Melenchuk said. "We are
committed to working with school divisions to ensure students have safe,
comfortable and well-equipped learning facilities."
Rossignol School in Ile a La Crosse will receive $143,000 to construct two
accommodations for teachers.
Birch Ridge School in Turnor Lake will receive $49,000 for roof
replacement, as well as $8,000 to replace the cladding of the gymnasium
wall.
La Loche Community School will receive $141,000 to construct two
accommodations for teachers. Pinehouse will receive $128,000 to construct
two accommodations for teachers.
Last September construction began on a new K-5 elementary school to provide
Pinehouse students with additional space and a more comfortable and modern
educational facility. The government's contribution to this project is
$4.25 million.
Valley View School in Beauval will receive $22,000 to move two relocatable
classrooms from Pinehouse.
"With the $29.2 million in the Department of Education capital budget,
including $5 million from the Centenary Fund, approximately 150 school
construction, renovation or upgrading projects will be funded this year,"
Melenchuk said.
Additional projects will be approved and allocated to school divisions
throughout the fiscal year.
"By investing in education we are investing in the future of Saskatchewan,"
Melenchuk said.
