HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENTS NEAR GUERNSEY

Released on June 20, 2001

Resurfacing is set to begin on a 12.9 km section of Highway 20 north of

Guernsey.

"Work for this $800,000 improvement project is anticipated to begin this

week and should be completed by mid-September," Highways and Transportation

Minister Pat Atkinson said. "Completion of this job will require an

estimated 31 full-time workers."

The 12.9 km improvement project on Highway 20 begins 16 km north of the

junction of Highway 16 and continues north. The project will include the

application of a double seal coat to provide a smooth travelling surface on

the highway. This is an extension of work completed last year.

Venture Construction Inc. of Saskatoon was awarded this project.

"Highway 20 north of Guernsey has experienced an increase in truck traffic

in the past few years," Atkinson said. "By strengthening and surfacing

this section, we are working to complete the link to Highway 5 and

Humboldt."

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record

$311.7 million, which will help to resurface and upgrade 550 km of rural

and northern highways.
