Work will soon be underway to construct a steel and concrete bridge on
Highway 4 over the North Saskatchewan River near North Battleford.
"The construction of this bridge is part of the four-laning initiative
between North Battleford and Lloydminster," Atkinson said. "The government
of Saskatchewan is committed to twinning our portion of the national
highway system."
"Work on this $10.2 million bridge construction project will begin this
week with the completion of the piers and abutments expected by fall,"
Highways and Transportation Minister Pat Atkinson said. "Work will
continue over the winter into the 2002 construction season."
The construction of the concrete bridge deck and installation of the bridge
rail are slated to begin in spring 2002. Construction is expected to be
complete by September 2002.
PCL-Maxam, a Joint Venture from Regina, was awarded the initial
construction contract. Erection of the structural steel girders is
scheduled for winter of 2002 and will be handled under a separate contract
by Supreme Steel Ltd.
Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record
$311.7 million.
