New polling shows 77 per cent of those surveyed think Saskatchewan is agreat place to live, work and do business and 53 per cent approve of the
way the government is handling the economy.
Sixty-seven per cent approve of the direction the government took in this
spring's budget. Eighty per cent agree with the increase in the education
budget to $1.1 billion, agree with a $312 million budget for highways and
agree with an extra $229 million for health care.
On policing, 66 per cent of Saskatchewan people polled approve of the way
the province is handling policing.
Nearly 90 per cent of those respondents agree with the direction of more
funding for the expansion of serious crime units and a program for serious
offenders. The majority of those polled would like to see stiffer
penalties for crimes and a tougher Young offenders Act.
Finally, 49 per cent of those polled approve of the overall job the
provincial government is doing. That includes more than a 20 per cent
increase in males over 55 since January. Other significant polling
increases in the way people view the job the government is doing happened
in health care (up 14 per cent) and highways (up 13 per cent) also since
January.
Polling in this quarter was conducted in April, May and June. Standalone
polls were also commissioned by the Department of Finance and SaskPower.
Doug Fast and Associates conducted the omnibus polls, Sigma Analytics the
finance poll and Pulse Research the SaskPower poll.
The total cost of all the polling was $78,725.
