SURFACING HIGHWAY 8 NEAR KAMSACK

Released on July 19, 2001

A 17.7 km surfacing project is set to begin on Highway 8 near Kamsack.

"Roadwork on this $2.4 million improvement project is anticipated to begin

this week and be completed by late August," Highways and Transportation

Minister Pat Atkinson said. "This project is expected to create 49 full-

time jobs."

The 17.7 km of surfacing will begin on Highway 8 from the junction of

Highway 357 to the Town of Kamsack. Other improvements will take place

south of this resurfaced section. A seal coat will be applied to Highway

8, beginning at the Village of Wroxton and continuing north of 21.6 km to

the junction of Highways 8 and 357.

"Highway 8 is a busy route that requires major repair work," Atkinson

said. "With the resurfacing work on a 17.7 km section and a seal coat used

on a 21.6 km section, drivers will notice a much smoother ride on this

highway."

This project is included in the five year $220 million Prairie Grain

Program agreement that was recently signed by all three levels of

government.

Langenburg Redi Mix Ltd. of Langenburg, was awarded the tender.

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record

$311.7 million, which will help to improve the major highway system that

carries 65 per cent of provincial traffic.
