RESURFACING HIGHWAY 22 NEAR CUPAR

Released on July 19, 2001

Resurfacing of a 7.2 km section of Highway 2 east of Cupar will begin

shortly.

"Work for this over $600,000 improvement project is anticipated to begin

this week and should be finished by mid-September," Highways and

Transportation Minister Pat Atkinson said. "Around 31 full-time workers

will be needed to complete this job."

The resurfacing project on Highway 22 will take place from the junctions of

Highway 22 and Grid 640 east of Cupar and will continue west for 7.2 km.

"Highway 22 east of Cupar has experienced significantly higher volumes of

traffic in the last couple of years," Atkinson said. "It's necessary to

keep this important highway in good driving condition."

Warner Construction Ltd. was awarded this resurfacing project.

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record

$311.7 million. The money will be used to resurface and upgrade 550 km of

rural and northern highways.
