Improvements are set to begin on a 4.9 km section of Highway 349 nearArcherwill.
"Work for this $300,000 grading project is anticipated to begin this week
and should be completed by mid-September," Highways and Transportation
Minister Pat Atkinson said. "This job will create work for about 10 full-
time employees."
This project will begin west of the junction of Highways 349 and 38 and
will continue for a total distance of 4.9 km. The improvements will
include raising, widening and improving the strength of the subgrade and
gravelling the surface.
"This section of Highway 349 east of Archerwill will be improved greatly
once the subgrade is rebuilt," Atkinson said. "This highway has seen an
increase in heavy truck traffic. It links travelers to Greenwater
Provincial Park and needs to be upgraded to carry the current traffic
levels."
Haas Construction Ltd. was awarded this improvement project.
Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record
$311.7 million, which will help to resurface and upgrade 550 km of rural
and northern highways.
