The Saskatchewan Science Centre has received $240,000 from the SaskatchewanCentenary Fund. This money will go to The Celebration of Saskatchewan Science
projects to be developed over the next four years.
"These initiatives will help current and future generations understand science
especially as it applies to the Saskatchewan environment," Municipal Affairs,
Culture and Housing Minister Jack Hillson said. "The new features will
complement existing attractions that the Science Centre offers to visitors."
The first of the four projects is the Saskatchewan Enviro Lab that will give
school and community groups the opportunity to explore environmental issues,
with equipment and resources not typically found in the classroom. The other
projects are a computer lab, a travelling lab for use at outreach programs and
community events throughout the province, and the Saskatchewan Wetlands
Interpretive Centre.
"The Saskatchewan Science Centre is excited about this funding from the
Saskatchewan Centenary Fund. It will enable us to expand and enhance our
programming in areas such as environmental studies and natural resources,"
Saskatchewan Science Centre Board Chair Joe van Koeverden said. "We appreciate
the financial support of the provincial government in helping us deliver high
quality science educational programming."
The Centenary Fund, announced in Saskatchewan's 2000-01 budget, was established
to leave a legacy of Saskatchewan's Centennial for future generations. Leading
up to the Saskatchewan centennial celebrations in 2005, the Saskatchewan
Government is funding projects that will address specific infrastructure needs
related to heritage properties, parks, highways, environmental clean-up,
education, housing and municipal infrastructure.
