RESURFACING HIGHWAYS NEAR KERROBERT

Released on February 21, 2001

A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 10.2 km of Highways 21 and 51 near

Kerrobert this construction season.

"Work for this $1.9 million resurfacing project is anticipated to begin in mid-

August of 2001 and should be completed by mid-September," Highways and

Transportation Minister Pat Atkinson said. "Completion of this job will

require an estimated 31 full-time workers."

The resurfacing project on Highway 21 will take place on two separate sections

of Highway 21 by its junction with Highway 307 and near its junction with

Highway 31. A small section of Highway 51 will also be resurfaced

approximately 18 km east of Kerrobert. Drivers in the Kerrobert region should

watch for large trucks carrying crushed gravel this month.

ASL Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon was awarded this resurfacing project.

This surfacing project was identified in the 2000/2001 Winter Tender Schedule

for Saskatchewan highway work, worth an estimated $90 million. The Winter

Tender Schedule ensures timely and efficient delivery of highway improvements

this spring.

"Highways 21 and 51 by Kerrobert have seen an increase in truck traffic, which

leads to deterioration," Atkinson said. "By resurfacing these sections, they

will be capable of handling heavier traffic loads."

"Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is working hard to fix roads across

the province to improve driver safety."
