Premier Lorne Calvert and members of cabinet and caucus concluded the monthlong "Dialogue with Saskatchewan" bus tour today with a stop at the St.
Paul's Hospital Nurses Residence and a reception with the volunteer and non-
government organizations housed there.
The "Listening Tour" has covered approximately 6,000 kms and members have
met with residents of more than 90 communities. Topics of discussion have
ranged from specific local concerns to broad ideas and suggestions.
"Overall, one message has been very common on our travels," Calvert said.
"People in rural communities are saying, 'Give us the tools, and we'll do
the job.' The topic may vary from health care, to roads, to education but
the co-operative, enthusiastic spirit remains the same."
The tour has criss-crossed the province visiting a wide variety of
communities. Premier Calvert says this tour is only the first of many
rural activities planned for his government.
"This tour has been a valuable experience for me and our members," Calvert
said. "This dialogue does not end here. The concerns, suggestions and
ideas we have heard will help us shape public policy, plan our legislative
agenda and prioritize our upcoming budget."
"I am convinced that those we have met along the way have appreciated our
efforts. We have been graciously welcomed and at almost every stop we
hear, 'Thank you for coming... We are glad you came to hear our concerns.'
That has made this trip very rewarding."
At the wrap-up event in Saskatoon the Premier thanked all of the community
leaders and concerned citizens who took the time to organize events, give
presentations and meet with the members to make suggestions, bring forward
ideas and voice concerns.
