IMPROVEMENTS TO HIGHWAYS 21 & 51 NEAR KERROBERT

Released on August 30, 2001

Highway improvements have begun on a total of 10.2 km on Highways 21 & 51

near Kerrobert.

"Work for this $1.9 million improvement project began on August 27 and

should be completed by mid-September," Highways and Transportation Minister

Pat Atkinson said. "Completion of this job will require an estimated 31

full-time workers."

ASL Paving Ltd. was awarded this project.

The improvements on Highway 21 extend from 2.19 km south of its junction

with Highway 307 to just north of this junction, and from just south

south of its junction with Highway 31 to 6.6 km north of this junction.

The portion of the project taking place on Highway 51 runs from 19.1 km to

18.1 km east of its junction with Highway 21.

The total distance of the entire project is 10.2 km.

"Highway 21 and 51 near Kerrobert have experienced an increase in truck

traffic in the past few years," Atkinson said. "Saskatchewan Highways and

Transportation is working hard to fix roads across the province to improve

driver safety."

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record

$311.7 million, which will help to improve the major highway system that

carries 65 per cent of provincial traffic.
