IMPROVING SASKATCHEWAN SCHOOLS

There will be upgrades to another 57 Saskatchewan schools, primarily in

rural communities. Today's announcement by Education Minister Jim Melenchuk

brings the total number of projects approved to date to 85.



"Our government is investing in improved learning environments for

Saskatchewan students," Melenchuk said. "We are committed to working with

school divisions to ensure students have safe, comfortable and well-

equipped schools."



Today's projects include improvements such as roof replacement and

restoration, mechanical system upgrades, renovations, additions and

relocatable classrooms.



"Today's announcement is a sign we are committed to investing in rural

Saskatchewan," Rural Revitalization Minister Pat Atkinson said. "More than

two thirds of these projects are in rural communities across the province."



The provincial budget allocated $29.2 million, including $5 million from

the Centenary Fund, to fund approximately 150 school construction,

renovation or upgrading projects this year. Additional projects will be

approved throughout the fiscal year.
