Improvements have just begun at the busy junction of Highway 11 andGrasswood/Floral Road, approximately 3 km south of Saskatoon.
"Work has started on this $3.5 million project and should be completed by
late September," Highways and Transportation Minister Pat Atkinson said.
"This project will create around 19 full-time jobs."
The intersection will see a number of improvements. A safer alignment with
a new subgrade and surfacing structure will be built 300 metres south of
the existing intersection. Both Floral Road and Grasswood Road will be
realigned to provide easier access for drivers.
These realignments will involve constructing new ramps, service roads and
acceleration and deceleration lanes that will be used to provide improved
and safer access for residents, business owners and the general public who
use this intersection.
"This intersection has experienced a significant increase in traffic as a
result of residential and business growth in the area, combined with high
traffic volumes on Highway 11," Atkinson said. "The changes we are making
will make the intersection safer for drivers."
Potzus Paving and Road Maintenance Ltd. was awarded this project.
Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record
$311.7 million, which will help to improve the major highway system that
carries 65 per cent of provincial traffic.
