RESURFACING HIGHWAY 3 NEAR PRAIRIE RIVER

Released on August 8, 2001

Resurfacing 8.3 km of Highway 3 near Prairie River is underway.

"Work for this $1.2 million resurfacing project should be completed by mid

to late August," Highways and Transportation Minister Pat Atkinson said.

"This project will create around 43 full-time workers."

The resurfacing project on Highway 3 will begin approximately 10 km west of

Prairie River and continue 8.3 km west.

"Like many other highways in the province, Highway 3 has seen a major

increase in heavy truck traffic in the past few years, resulting in road

deterioration," Atkinson said. "We will continue to work hard to deliver

highway improvement projects to our highway network throughout

Saskatchewan."

G. W. Construction Ltd. of Buchanan was awarded this project.

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record

$311.7 million, which will help to resurface and upgrade 550 km of rural

and northern highways.

Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for

construction signs and equipment.
