IMPROVING HIGHWAY 4 NEAR ELROSE

Released on August 8, 2001

Improvements have been completed on a 7.3 km section of Highway 4 near

Elrose.

"Work for this nearly $700,000 resurfacing project required 20 full-time

workers," Highways and Transportation Minister Pat Atkinson said.

This project took place on two separate sections. The first 3.2 km section

began north of the junction of Highway 4 and Grid 647 and continued north.

The second 4.1 km section started immediately south of the junction of

Highways 4 and 15.

"Highway 4 near Elrose is a major north/south corridor that is experiencing

an increase in heavy truck traffic," Atkinson said. "It's important to

keep this highway in safe driving condition."

H. J. R. Asphalt Ltd. was awarded this resurfacing project.

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's budget this year is a record

$311.7 million, which will help to improve the major highway system that

carries 65 per cent of provincial traffic.
