PAVING TO BEGIN ON HIGHWAY 16 NEAR RADISSON

Released on September 15, 2000

11.1 km of Highway 16 in the Radisson area will be repaved to create a smoother

driving surface for travellers.

"Work on this $1.5 million project is expected to begin immediately and will be

completed by mid- October," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard

Sonntag said. "Completion of this job will require an estimated 18 full-time

workers."

The contract for this work was awarded to ASL Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon as the

lowest of five bidders. The paving work will take place at various locations

along Highway 16 between Langham and Maymont.

"We are working hard to maintain our National Highway System, which Highway 16

is part of," Sonntag said. "This highway is expected to carry a high volume of

traffic and it's important to keep it in good condition."

Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different

highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the

largest in the department's history.

Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for

construction signs and equipment.
