Highway 31 northwest of Kerrobert will have a 5.4 km section resurfaced tocreate a smoother drive for travellers.
"Work will begin on this $681,000 project immediately and should be completed
in late September," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said.
"Completion of this job will require an estimated 15 full-time workers."
Westland Enterprizes Ltd. of Delisle was awarded this project as the lowest of
nine bidders.
"Highway 31 by Kerrobert has seen a recent increase in truck traffic due to
increased oil activity in the area, as well as a general increase in grain
traffic, that is resulting in road damage," Sonntag said. "We are working hard
to address these challenges by repairing high volume highways and preserving
our rural roads."
Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different
highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the
largest in the department's history.
Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for
construction signs and equipment.
