REGINA PLANS IMPROVEMENTS TO LOCAL HEALTH FACILITIES

The Regina Health District is moving ahead with plans to renovate and upgrade a

number of health care facilities in the city.



Health Minister Pat Atkinson gave approval-in-principle to district plans that

address urgent fire safety needs, Occupational Health & Safety corrections,

energy management initiatives, maintenance work and other building renovations.



"Reinvesting in local health care facilities is an essential part of our goal

to improve service delivery and ensure quality of care for people throughout

the province," Atkinson said.



Province-wide, Saskatchewan Health will spend $41.1 million on capital projects

this year. Of this amount, $7.7 million is available for new projects and

$33.4 million is committed to previously approved projects.



High provincial priority is being given to the following new Regina Health

District

capital projects:



Extendicare/Elmview Special Care Home – The proposed project replaces

the ventilation system throughout the building;



Extendicare/Parkside Special Care Home – The proposed project upgrades

the boiler and hot water heating system;



Extendicare/Sunset Special Care Home – The proposed project replaces

roof sections and repairs building structure damaged due to ice build-

up; and



Santa Maria Special Care Home – The proposed project upgrades the

elevator system.



In addition, the district will continue to work with the department to finalize

an ongoing project to add a 50-bed unit to William Booth Special Care Home.

The project includes increased space for community programming such as respite

care. This project also includes an increase in palliative care services.
