SIAST will be enhancing technology used for on-line training and services for
students at four SIAST campuses, thanks to a $600,000 investment by the
provincial government.
"Strengthening our public institutions is one of the best ways we can celebrate
Saskatchewan's centenary," Post-Secondary Education and Skills Training
Minister Glenn Hagel said. "This funding will help SIAST, including Woodland
Campus, to offer education and training, anytime, anyplace, which makes
learning more accessible and affordable."
SIAST plans to use the funding to offer services including increased access to
on-line training and services for students and enhanced access to the library
and other learning resources via technology.
"Some of the key recommendations in this year's report of the SIAST Review
Committee focussed on using technology to increase access to training and to
enhance learning," SIAST President Dr. Art Knight said. "This funding will
help us meet this goal."
The funding is from the Centenary Capital Fund, announced in this year's budget
to leave a legacy of Saskatchewan's centennial for future generations. Leading
up to the centennial celebrations in 2005, the Saskatchewan Government is
funding projects that support key infrastructure needs in the post-secondary
education and skills training sector.
