HIGHWAY 312 NEAR ROSTHERN TO BE SURFACED

Released on November 24, 2000

The tender has been awarded to surface 11.8 km on Highway 312 near Rosthern.

"On-road work for this $1.6 million project will begin next spring with the

completion targeted for July," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard

Sonntag said. "Completion of this job will require an estimated 42 jobs."

Anderson Rental and Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon was awarded this project as the

lowest of six bidders. The project includes reconstruction of the subgrade and

surfacing through Rosthern.

Improvements will take place on two sections of Highway 312 to total 11.8 km.

The first section begins west of the junction of Highway 11 and 312 for 5.3 km,

and the second 6.5 km section ends at the Laird Access Road.

"This highway has been deteriorating as a result of increasing traffic volumes

and weights seen on this road," Sonntag said. "The condition of this highway

is a definite concern to local residents and this surfacing project will

certainly improve the drive."

The provincial government spent an extra $24 million this fall to fix

Saskatchewan roads. This brings the Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation

budget to a record $274 million, a 17 per cent increase over the 1999-2000

budget.
