CYPRESS HILLS REGIONAL COLLEGE RECEIVES MONEY

The government is investing $800,000 in Saskatchewan's eight Regional

Colleges. Cypress Hills Regional College will receive a portion of the money

to enhance technology used for on-line training and services.



"Strengthening our public institutions is one of the best ways we can celebrate

Saskatchewan's centennial," Post-Secondary Education and Skills Training

Minister Glenn Hagel said. "This funding will help the Regional Colleges,

including Cypress Hills, to bring a wide variety of training opportunities to

people throughout Saskatchewan. This makes learning more accessible and

affordable."



The Regional Colleges plan to use the funding to offer services including

increased access to on-line training and services for students in their home

communities, and enhanced access to learning resources via technology.



"Some of the key recommendations in this year's report of the Regional Colleges

Review Committee focussed on using technology to increase access to training

and to enhance learning," Cypress Hills Regional College CEO Dr. Neil Clarke

said. "This funding will help us to meet this goal."



The money is from the Centenary Fund, announced in this year's budget to leave

a legacy of Saskatchewan's Centennial for future generations. Leading up to

the centennial celebrations in 2005, the Saskatchewan Government is funding

projects that support key infrastructure needs in the post-secondary education

and skills training sector.
