A Tisdale community-based employment program is receiving $26,000 to help the
intellectually disabled find work.
NewSask Community Futures Development Corp. administers the program for the
Tisdale-based North East Community Partners for Inclusion Advisory Group. It
will work with six communities that will provide additional money.
Intellectually disabled people looking for work in Tisdale, Melfort, Nipawin,
Naicam, Porcupine Plain and Quill Lake will benefit from the program.
"All people in Saskatchewan have the right to participate fully in their
communities," Social Services Minister Harry Van Mulligen said. "The Supported
Employment Transition Initiatives will give people with intellectual
disabilities a more independent lifestyle."
"The North East Community Partners for Inclusion would like to thank the
Supported Employment Initiatives Fund for its contribution which will enable us
to continue essential services," NewSask Community Development Corporation
General Manager Judy Childs said.
Funding has been provided from the Supported Employment Transition Initiative
Fund by Social Services, Community Living Division. The Saskatchewan
Association of Rehabilitation Centres (SARC) administers the $300,000 annual
allocation.
There are ten partners committed to this project, including Human Resources
Development Canada (HRDC), Saskatchewan Social Services' Community Living
Division, Battlefords Health District-Mental Health, and the Canadian Mental
Health Association-North Battleford Branch.
