A Kipling community-based employment program is receiving $20,000 to help theintellectually disabled find work.
South East Supported Employment will use the money to hire a co-ordinator who
will educate businesses and the public on how to employ people with
intellectual disabilities. This program will help people in Kipling, Estevan,
Redvers, Weyburn and Moosomin.
"All people in Saskatchewan have the right to participate fully in their
communities," Social Services Minister Harry Van Mulligen said. "The Supported
Employment Transition Initiatives will give people with intellectual
disabilities a more independent lifestyle."
"We are pleased and excited to receive this grant and opportunity," South East
Supported Employment Chair Martin Dundas said. "This provides six agencies the
support to develop necessary programs and to establish needed partnerships to
assist the people we serve obtain and keep meaningful employment in their
communities."
Funding has been provided from the Supported Employment Transition Initiative
Fund by Social Services, Community Living Division. The Saskatchewan
Association of Rehabilitation Centres (SARC) administers the $300,000 annual
allocation.
There are ten partners committed to this project, including Human Resources
Development Canada (HRDC), Saskatchewan Social Services' Community Living
Division, Battlefords Health District-Mental Health, and the Canadian Mental
Health Association-North Battleford Branch.
