Motorists will soon notice extensive road repairs taking place on a 10.8 kmsection along Highway 303 east of Lloydminster.
"Work on this $2 million surfacing project is expected to begin the week of May
23rd and will be completed in late August," Highways and Transportation
Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "Completion of this job will require an
estimated 58 full-time workers."
ASL Paving Ltd. of Lloydminster was awarded this project as the lowest of eight
bidders.
Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different
highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the
largest in the department's history.
"This road is being upgraded to a paved surface to support the growing oil
economy in this area," Sonntag said. "Once this improvement project is
completed, this highway will be capable of servicing heavy truck traffic as
well as local traffic."
Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for
construction signs and equipment.
