HIGHWAY 361 EAST OF LAMPMAN TO BE UPGRADED

Released on May 15, 2000

A 10.1 km stretch of Highway 361 east of Lampman will be resurfaced to create a

smoother drive for travellers.

"It is anticipated that work will begin on this $910,000 project the week of

May 15th and should be completed in late July," Highways and Transportation

Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "Completion of this job will require an

estimated 36 full-time workers."

W. F. Botkin Construction Ltd. of Regina was awarded this project as the lowest

of seven bidders. This project is the final phase to complete a sustainable

highway link between Highways 47 and 9. The RM of Browning and the RM of Moose

Creek have been major partners in the funding and delivery of construction

projects for this highway link.

"Increases of heavy truck traffic from the oil and agricultural industries were

causing serious damage to Highway 361," Sonntag said. "A partnership with the

two RMs has made it possible to upgrade the highway so that it is capable of

carrying truck traffic while serving rural Saskatchewan residents."

Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different

highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the

largest in the department's history.

Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for

construction signs and equipment.
