RESURFACING PROJECT SCHEDULED FOR HIGHWAY 15

Released on May 2, 2000

Highway 15 west of Kenaston will receive 19.6 km of resurfacing this summer to

provide a smooth ride for travellers.

"Work will begin on this $1.6 million project the week of May 8th and should be

completed by early July," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag

said. "Completion of this project will require an estimated 45 full-time

workers."

Warner Construction Company Ltd. of Regina was awarded this project as the

lowest of eight bidders. The work begins 3 km west of Kenaston and continues

past the Highway 19 junction.

Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different

highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the

largest in the department's history.

"We are working to maintain a safe and reliable highway network," Sonntag

said. "As our budget increases, so does our ability to preserve and maintain

provincial highways."

Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for

construction signs and equipment.
