It will be a smooth 13.1 km drive from Veregin to Mikado after resurfacing workis completed on Highway 5 this summer.
"Work will begin on this $1 million project the week of May 1st and should be
completed by late July," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag
said. "Completion of this job will require an estimated 20 full time workers."
Potzus Construction Ltd. of Yorkton was awarded this project as the lowest of
seven bidders.
Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different
highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the
largest in the department's history.
"We are working to maintain a safe and reliable highway network," Sonntag
said. "As our budget increases, so does our ability to preserve and maintain
provincial highways."
Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for
construction signs and equipment.
