SASKPOWER BOARD APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

Four new members will join the SaskPower Board of Directors.



The new members of the board, announced by Crown Investments Corporation

Minister John Nilson, are:



Dr. David Barnard, president, University of Regina;



Neil Collins, station electrician, Boundary Dam Power Station, former

business manager and president, IBEW Local 2067, Estevan;



V. Lynne Pearson, dean of the College of Commerce, the University of

Saskatchewan, Saskatoon; and



Patricia Quaroni, commercial lawyer and partner, Olive Waller Zinkhan &

Waller, Regina.



"During the Crown Review, the people of Saskatchewan affirmed that

professional, qualified boards fulfill a significant role in the effective

governance of our Crown corporations," Nilson said.



Board Chair Milt Fair also welcomed the new members. "The citizens we are

welcoming today bring a range of strategic leadership and entrepreneurial

skills to the table that will complement those of our eight continuing board

members."



The SaskPower board is comprised of business professionals and community

leaders from across Saskatchewan and Canada. Among its responsibilities, the

board provides leadership in setting SaskPower's long-range strategic direction

and approves the corporation's strategic plan, business plan, operating goals

and budget and performance indicators. All members of the board are

independent from SaskPower management, with the exception of the president and

CEO.



Board members are appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council, pursuant to

the Power Corporation Act. Through the chair, the board reports to the CIC

minister.
