SURFACING TO OCCUR ON THE PULP HAUL CUT ACROSS ROAD NEAR PRINCE ALBERT

Released on June 21, 2000

Surfacing will take place on 8 km of the Pulp Haul Cut Across road near Prince

Albert to create a smooth, dust free road for traffic.

"Work began on this $1.3 million project in mid-June and will be completed by

late August," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said.

"Completion of this job will require 31 full-time workers."

Potzus Construction Ltd. of Yorkton was awarded the tender as the lowest of

five bidders.

The surfacing project will begin on the Pulp Haul Cut Across at its junction

with Highway No. 55, 17 km northeast of Prince Albert and continues eight

kilometres northwest along this same highway. This contract will also include

intersection improvements on Highway 3 at Silverwillows Road southeast of

Prince Albert and on Highway 55 at Cloverdale Road northeast of Prince Albert.

"This road is being upgraded to handle the increasing heavy truck haul on this

industrial route," Sonntag said. "This route serves the expanding timber

industry in Prince Albert."

Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different

highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the

largest in the department's history.

Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for

construction signs and equipment.
