People with schizophrenia and their families can look forward to increasedprogramming and services from the Schizophrenia Society of Saskatchewan, thanks
to increased funding from the provincial government.
Associate Health Minister Judy Junor announced today that the province is more
than doubling its funding to the Schizophrenia Society for the 2000/01 fiscal
year. The province is increasing the group's budget by $70,000, bringing it to
a total of $122,000. The society will use these additional dollars to reach
more people by strengthening its existing range of programs and services.
"We are proud to be your partner as you offer support and guidance to people
with schizophrenia and their families," Junor said. "With this increased
funding, I am confident the Schizophrenia Society will continue to provide
leadership and support in the fight against the stigma of mental illness."
Some of the society's other services include:
educational material, supportive counselling and advocacy for people with
schizophrenia and their families;
a computer website;
public awareness campaigns; and
a Partnership Program, where people with schizophrenia, family members and
professionals speak at schools and services clubs about the myths and
realities of schizophrenia.
