IMPROVING EDUCATION IN NORTH BATTLEFORD

Released on June 15, 2000

The Provincial Government is providing approximately $1.27 million this year

for improvements to the North Battleford Comprehensive High School.

The improvements will benefit high school and regional college students who

both share the school.

This project includes renovations for the alternate education and drama program

areas and the development of day-care facilities. Mechanical improvements to

the heating and fire sprinkler systems, as well as replacement of roof and

asbestos insulation are expected to significantly reduce operating costs.

"Saskatchewan Education is investing in school improvements with a 20 per cent

increase in capital funding over last year including an additional $5 million

from the Centenary Fund," Education Minister Jim Melenchuk said. "This project

in North Battleford is one of an estimated 115 school construction, renovation

or upgrading projects to be undertaken this year in communities across

Saskatchewan."

The Battlefords School Division will contribute close to $750,000 and the North

West Regional College will contribute $40,000. Work will begin this summer and

be completed in 2001.

"The North West Regional College facilities in this building create an

excellent learning environment for North Battleford's adult learners," Post-

Secondary Education and Skills Training Minister Glenn Hagel said. "By

continuing to invest in education and training partnerships, we are investing

in the future of Saskatchewan people and communities."
